Rene D. Hebert 1926 - 2009
He was born at home on Chapel Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on December 29, 1926, a beloved son of the late Emile and Roseanna (Lariviere) Hebert. He was raised in Aldenville, attended Chicopee Schools and was a lifelong resident of Aldenville. He was employed for 25 years as a tool maker at the former F. W. Sickles Company in Chicopee and had last been employed for 27 years as an engineer at the former Springfield Wire, Inc. and retired in 1991. He was active in Aldenville and was a founding member and a member of the Board of Directors of the Aldenville Junior Athletic Club. He also co-founded the girls cheerleading squad of the AJAC, was a longtime Basketball Coach for ages 15-17 for AJAC and was active in the AJAC yearly variety shows. He was a founding member of the Hill Investment Club in Aldenville.
He was an active communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville where he served his parish in numerous capacities including being a Eucharistic Minister for the church, the home bound parishioners and visiting the local nursing homes. He was also a member of the Parish Council, active with the youth ministry of the Church, was a member of the Evangelization Team that formed the fellowship committee that instituted the weekly coffee hour after the Sunday Liturgy and was a longtime Captain for the Parish of the Annual Stewardship Appeal for the Diocese of Springfield.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. During his quiet time, he enjoyed puttering around his home and was always working on a new project.
He leaves his beloved and devoted wife, caregiver and best friend, Shirley R. (Gagnon) Hebert. They were married at the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Holyoke on February 22, 1948 and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving children, Sister Carol M. Hebert, SSJ of Chicopee, David R. Hebert and his wife, Denise of Belchertown, Kathleen J. Hebert and her lifetime friend, Denise T. Descoteau of Holyoke and Daniel R. Hebert of Chicopee; his two cherished grandsons whom he adored, Matthew Hebert and his wife, Kristy of Springfield and Craig Hebert of Worcester; his dear sister, Lorraine Hundley and her husband, Don of Aldenville and his two dear nephews, Rick Hundley and his wife, Nancy of East Longmeadow and Kevin Hundley and his wife, Virginia of Connecticut. He was predeceased by his brother, Leo Hebert.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, October 14, 2009 at 8:45 am from the St. Pierre Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street in Chicopee. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street in Chicopee. His family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Sisters of Saint Joseph c/o Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040 or to Saint Joan of Arc-Saint George School Fund, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
